Young leaders striving to make Kentucky better

A group of nearly 80 young leaders from across Kentucky rolled into Paducah Friday night on a mission.

Their work is multifaceted and complex, but their goal is simple. They're building real friendships across divides -- both real and imagined -- and working together across county lines to make Kentucky better. 

The Kentucky Rural-Urban Exchange (RUX) started out in 2014 as a partnership between Art of the Rural in Louisville and Appalshop in Whitesburg. It's since grown to include individuals from 24 Kentucky counties working together across four sectors: arts and culture, agriculture and food systems, community health and wellness, and local economics and small business. 

"We believe that if people are going to do hard work together across distances, it's going to take more than workshops and networking events," said Savannah Barrett, Art of the Rural director of programs and RUX leader.
