AMIโs 2022 Summer Documentary Institute was one day away from screening three new films when the recent catastrophic flooding began. All of AMIโs filmmaking equipment, computers, art supplies, and countless memories were lost. It was feared that all three 2022 AMI films were lost as well, but after extracting hard drives from waterlogged editing computers, all or partial pieces of the films produced by the Summer Documentary Institute interns were miraculously recovered and will be screened at this event.
Appalshop and AMI hope to rebuild. And as central Kentuckyโs premiere venue for film, The Kentucky Theatre wants to support their efforts through this fundraising benefit.
A huge thanks to our sponsors and partners, 21c Museum Hotels, Appalshop, Kentucky Natural Lands Trust, Kentucky Rural Urban Exchange, WRFL, and the University of Kentucky College of Communication and Information, School of Journalism and Media!
HYMNS FOR THE HOLLER:
Two August Concerts Raise $21,312 for Appalshop flood relief!
We are so grateful to each and all of you who supported our two #HymnsfortheHoller benefit concerts in August. Between the two events, you raised $21,312 for Appalshop flood relief!
You also donated two carloads of useful supplies, and they were delivered to Carr Creek Community Center where they'll be put to good use. We knew Louisville and Kentucky would show up for our neighbors, but yโall have far exceeded our expectations. Thank you for supporting our partners in Eastern Kentucky!
We also give mighty thanks to the artists who made this possible: Joan Shelley, Nathan Salsburg, Ben Sollee, Joe Manning, Lacey Guthrie, Randy Wilson, Heather Summers, Brett and Donnie, Trevsax, Tyler Lance Walker Gill, Kiana & the Sun Kings, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Affrilachian Poets: Asha French, Frank X Walker, Jeremy Paden, and Makalani Bandele, and Cricket Press.
A special thanks to our co-organizer Daniel Martin Moore, this couldn't have happened without him, to our volunteers, and to our many partners OK Recordings, The Whirling Tiger, Kentucky Performing Arts, Kentucky Natural Lands Trust, 91.9 WFPK, Louisville Folk School, and Appalshop.
Please keep giving your time and money to our neighbors. If you need guidance on how to be connected to volunteer or donation opportunities from locals: visit www.appalshop.org/floodsupport or reach out and we'll help connect you.
